Awards

Anne Street, Honorary Professor University of Queensland, was awarded an AM (Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia) in June, "for significant service to science education in the field of mathematics". Anne was CMSA President from 1996 to 1998 and Editor-in-Chief of the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics from 1990 to 2001.

Professor Cheryl Praeger, University of Western Australia, was elected recently to Honorary Membership of the London Mathematical Society, an award to distinguished mathematicians who are not normally resident within the United Kingdom. [Editor's note: see http://www.lms.ac.uk/membership/honorary-members for the honour board which includes such riffraff as F. Klein, H. Poincare, G. Cantor, D. Hilbert, A. Einstein, G. Polya, K. Godel, P. Erdos, A. Wiles, and T. Tao.] Cheryl, a member of CMSA since 1975, was its conference director in 1984 and 1992.

Symmetry and Computation

The Centre for the Mathematics of Symmetry and Computation, University of Western Australia, produces an online newsletter three times per year. The latest edition can be found at http://www.cmsc.uwa.edu.au/news/newsletter,-september-2014

New PhDs

Nicholas Brettell successfully defended his PhD earlier this year at the University of Canterbury. His thesis is entitled Aspects of Matroid Connectivity. His supervisor was Charles Semple. He is now undertaking a post-doc at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France. Congratulations to Nick and Charles.

Daniel Harvey and Michael Payne recently completed their PhDs at The University of Melbourne, both supervised by David Wood. Daniel's thesis On Treewidth and Graph Minors is on the website https://minerva-access.unimelb.edu.au/handle/11343/40752. Michael's thesis Combinatorial Geometry of Point Sets with Collinearities is on https://minerva-access.unimelb.edu.au/handle/11343/40866. Congratulations to Daniel, Michael, and David.

The Australasian Journal of Combinatorics

The website for the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics is http://ajc.maths.uq.edu.au/.

The Journal is now online only, free for readers and authors (so it is a "diamond open access" journal). There are three volumes per year, with each volume closing in February, June and October, matching the time of publication of the old paper volumes. Volumes are currently being uploaded in three batches. All three parts of Volume 60 are now online.

Visit http://ajc.maths.uq.edu.au/ and sign up to subscribe to email notices whenever new papers are published. The contents of all volumes, 1 to 60, are listed at the above web page.

Submissions to the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics may be sent to ajc@maths.uq.edu.au. Only pdf files are required at submission stage.

The Journal is now indexed by Scopus from Volume 13 (1996) onwards.

ISSN: 2202-3518 (online only, from 2014); 1034-4942 (paper, to end 2013).
