59th Annual Meeting of the Australian Mathematical Society

The 59th Annual Meeting of the Australian Mathematical Society will be held at Flinders University, Adelaide, South Australia, from Monday 28 September to Thursday 1 October 2015.

Program

There will be a Special Session for Combinatorics organised by Amy Glen (A.Glen at murdoch.edu.au) and Jamie Simpson (Jamie.Simpson at curtin.edu.au). We warmly invite contributed talks from CMSA members and anyone else who is interested. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 31 May 2015.

Awards

Marston Conder (University of Auckland) was awarded the Hector Medal of the Royal Society of New Zealand in November 2014, for "his outstanding contributions to mathematics both internationally and locally, particularly in the construction and analysis of discrete objects with maximum symmetry under given conditions". Established in 1910, the Hector Medal is one of the oldest medals awarded by the RSNZ. The recipient in 1916 was one Ernest Rutherford. On 6 March, as part of the WA celebrations of International Women's Day, Cheryl Praeger (University of Western Australia) was inducted onto the Western Australian Women's Hall of Fame http://www.powerof100.com.au/halloffame/inductees-2015.html?start=6 https://www.facebook.com/InternationalWomensDayWA She featured along with two other inductees in a video shown at the presentation ceremony in the WA Government House Ballroom https://vimeo.com/121111208. Some members of the CMSA will have known Dan Archdeacon, University of Vermont USA. He was a very fine graph theorist, and served as Editor of the Journal of Graph Theory for some time. Also he was a frequent visitor to Auckland (to work with Paul Bonnington), and was an invited speaker at the 29ACCMCC in Taupo in 2004. Sadly Dan died in February, after a battle with cancer, aged only 60. Obituaries for Dan can be read at

The Australasian Journal of Combinatorics

The website for the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics is http://ajc.maths.uq.edu.au/.

The Journal is now online only, free for readers and authors (so it is a "diamond open access" journal). There are three volumes per year, with each volume closing in February, June and October, matching the time of publication of the old paper volumes. Volumes are currently being uploaded in three batches. All three parts of Volume 61 are now online.

Visit http://ajc.maths.uq.edu.au/ and sign up to subscribe to email notices whenever new papers are published. The contents of all volumes, 1 to 61, are listed at the above web page.

Submissions to the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics may be sent to ajc@maths.uq.edu.au. Only pdf files are required at submission stage.

The Journal is now indexed by Scopus from Volume 13 (1996) onwards.
