Recent news

MATRIX

The Mathematical Research Institute MATRIX is Australia's first research institute offering residential research programs in the mathematical sciences. It is located in Creswick, an historic town nestled in the Macedon Ranges, just north of Ballarat, 130km west of Melbourne. CMSA members are encouraged to submit proposals for MATRIX research programs. Several combinatorially minded mathematicians sit on the scientific committee. For more information see http://www.matrix-inst.org.au/ or email david.wood at monash.edu

New PhD

Hamid Mokhtar has successfully completed his PhD degree under the supervision of Sanming Zhou at the University of Melbourne. The title of his thesis is 'A few families of Cayley graphs and their efficiency as communication networks'. For the abstract see https://minerva-access.unimelb.edu.au/handle/11343/112590

ICA Medals

The Canada based Institute for Combinatorics and its Applications (ICA) recently announced that Catherine Greenhill (University of New South Wales) has been awarded the Hall medal and Daniel Horsley (Monash University) has been awarded the Kirkman medal. These medals are worldwide awards for outstanding work by respectively, mid and early career researchers in combinatorics. Big congratulations to both awardees!

Instituted in 2016 by ICA, Stanton Medals honour significant lifetime contributions to promoting the discipline of combinatorics through advocacy, outreach, service, teaching and/or mentoring. Letters of nomination should establish the significance, duration, and impact of the nominee’s contributions other than research. At most one medal per year is to be awarded, typically to a Fellow of the ICA. Nominations and enquiries to Charlie Colbourn, Colbourn at asu.edu.

Permutations

On a recent excursion in Kent UK, Jamie Simpson (Curtin University, Australia) took this photo at the Museum of Rural Life, St George's Church, in the village of Ivychurch. The curious board of permutations had no explanation. And there were no bell ringers around to ask!

The Australasian Journal of Combinatorics

The website for the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics is http://ajc.maths.uq.edu.au/.

The Journal is now online only, free for readers and authors (so it is a 'diamond open access' journal). There are three volumes per year, with each volume closing in February, June and October, matching the time of publication of the old paper volumes. Volumes are currently being uploaded in three batches. Parts 1 and 2 of Volume 66 (2016) are now online. Volume 66 part 3 will appear soon.

Visit http://ajc.maths.uq.edu.au/ and sign up to subscribe to email notices whenever new papers are published. The contents of all volumes, 1 to 65, are listed at the above web page.

Submissions to the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics may be sent to ajc@maths.uq.edu.au. Only pdf files are required at submission stage.

The Journal is now indexed by Scopus from Volume 13 (1996) onwards, and by Thomson Reuters "Emerging Sources Citation Index" from 2015 on.

ISSN: 2202-3518 (online only, after 2013); 1034-4942 (paper, before 2014).
