Future workshop and conference announcements
ATCAGC 2010 Workshop
The ATCAGC 2010 workshop will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, 15-19 February 2010
The 2nd workshop on Algebraic, Topological and Complexity Aspects of Graph Covers will be held at the University of Auckland, the week 15-19 February 2010.
This research workshop will focus on graph coverings and their applications in different areas of mathematics such as algebraic graph theory, models of computation, and computational complexity. Its aim is to bring together researchers working on these diverse ends of graph coverings, to introduce their approaches and results to one another, and to foster joint research in and between these fields. To achieve this we plan to have a small number of survey talks, several open problem sessions, and ample time for discussions and problem-solving.

Hadamard Maximal Determinant Problem Workshop at ANU
Dr Judy-anne Osborn and Professor Richard Brent will be organizing a small workshop on the Hadamard Maximal Determinant Problem at Australia National University in mid May, to coincide with the visit of Dr Will Orrick (Indiana University, Bloomington) and Dr Paul Zimmermann (INRIA, Nancy).
Talks will take place on Saturday the 15th of May.

Special Session on Interconnection Networks - AMS sectional meeting
A special session on Interconnection Networks at the Spring Eastern AMS sectional meeting will be held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (Newark, NJ) on May 22-23, 2010.
The title of the session is "Recent trends in Cayley graphs to model interconnection networks".
At that session the organisers plan to gather a mix of researchers in the areas of algebraic graph theory and interconnection networks. The organisers' goal is to discuss some of the exciting work that remains to be done to fully utilize group theoretic methods in the design of interconnection networks.

The ICRTGC-2010 Conference
International Conference on Recent Trends in Graph theory and Combinatorics , ICRTGC-2010 12-15, August 2010, Cochin, India.
This conference is a Satellite Conference of the International Congress of Mathematicians to be held at Hyderabad, India from 19-27 August, 2010.
The academic programme will consist of plenary and invited talks by eminent researchers in the field of Graph theory, Combinatorics and related topics from all parts of the world , contributed presentations and mini symposia on specific themes such as Algebraic Graph Theory, Metric Graph Theory and Graph Products, Graph Labeling and Graph Operators.

News Items
New Centre for the Mathematics of Symmetry and Computation
The new Centre for the Mathematics of Symmetry and Computation (CMSC) has been established at the University of Western Australia. The areas of Mathematics encompassed by the Centre are group theory, combinatorics and computation. The name of the Centre was chosen to appeal both to people at the core of the mathematical community and to those towards its edges and beyond. The synergy between symmetry and computation will provide a clear ongoing focus to the work at the Centre.
There are currently 12 staff associated with the centre, including the Director, Professor Cheryl Praeger and Deputy Director Professor Cai Heng Li. They will be joined by Professor Akos Seress, who will arrive later this year from Ohio State University to take up an ARC Australian Professorial Fellowship. The CMSC will actively develop relationships with Australian and international universities and organisations through established and new links. Members of the group already have active collaborations with researchers in Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, Italy, Iran, Slovakia, Slovenia, China, UK and USA.
The AMSI 2010 Australian Graduate Theme Program in Mathematical Sciences
During July 5-16, 2010 two advanced courses are being offered at the University of Queensland on the theme of Graphs, Networks and Designs.
The courses are aimed at postgraduate students and researchers in mathematics and related disciplines and will be presented by distinguished researchers.
- "Symmetry in Graphs" will be presented by Prof Brian Alspach of the University of Newcastle.
- "Applications of Designs" will be presented by Prof Charles Colbourn of Arizona State University.

Prabhu Manyem has accepted a 3-year professor position at the Shanghai University's Mathematics department.

Dr. Sanming Zhou was promoted to Associate Professor and Reader at the University of Melbourne, effective from January 1, 2010.

Rebecca Robinson has completed her PhD
Rebecca Robinson has completed her PhD at Monash University. Her Thesis is titled: "Characterizations and algorithms for topological containment of wheel graphs". Rebecca was Supervised by A. Prof Graham Farr.

The Australasian Journal of Combinatorics
The web page for the Australasian Journal of Combinatorics is at http://ajc.maths.uq.edu.au/.
The Journal is published three times per year, in February, June and October. CMSA Members are entitled to a $10 discount per volume.
There is a search facility for past authors and for keywords in the titles of papers. Instructions to authors are also available at this web site.
The contents of all volumes, 1 to 46, are listed at the above web page. We also now have free public access to the full papers in Volumes 1 to 34 inclusive. All but the last four years are available for free.
Submissions to the Australas. J. Combin. may be sent to ajc at maths.uq.edu.au. Electronic submissions are encouraged. For paper submissions, please check the web page.
